Shane Long, also known as White Raven, shared a true Native American experience with our students this morning. He greeted the students in the Algonquin language, the native language to Quinnehtukqut (Connecticut). Quinnehtukqut means land of the long river. He explained each piece of the regalia that he was wearing for his program today. He told our students that Native American stories were shared to teach a lesson. |
White Raven showed students how to do a Native American traditional dance and he asked the students to join in with him. Great Getaways students thoroughly enjoyed our time with him!
Students learned about Alaskan ice fishing. In Writer's Theater, students went fishing for silly writing prompts! They wrote some very creative stories!
Lastly, our friends Alex and Rebecca from the Wolf Conservation Society came to Great Getaways to speak about the wolves of North America. Student learned about the Wolf Conservation Society and what protecting our wolves and helping train some of them to be educators for students is all about. After Alex did his presentation, students met Atka, their beautiful wolf ambassador.
Students had an absolutely wonderful day in Native Alaska -- next stop, MEXICO!
