We have been having a wonderful week at Folktale Fiesta!! Students have been 'traveling' all over the world learning stories, music, and food from different cultures. It's been a blast!
Throughout each day, students engaged in four activities: Movement & Games, Arts & Crafts, Book Cooks, and Dramarama! Each day, students also have two special performers come to share their craft with the group! Wow!
On Monday, we traveled to South and Central America. Students tried a banana, chocolate treat because bananas and chocolate come from that region of the world. Students made Carnival masks inspired from the festival in Brazil! We had an interactive Capoeira presentation and the band, Fiesta del Norte entertained us for an hour in the afternoon!
On Tuesday, we jetted to Africa. Inspired by the story Mufaro's Beautiful Daughter, students made a unique picture frame! Students made mango parfaits! We were captivated by storyteller, Tammy Denease, sharing African folktales! Students also engaged in an African dance workshop and heard an exciting storyteller from Liberia.
On Wednesday, we scooted over to Asia. Students made an Asian Party Mix and learned to use chopsticks! Students made the game Mancala and learned how to play! We had a story teller perform as Rudyard Kipling sharing his stories with our students and we enjoyed Japanese Drumming Sensation, Taikoza.
On Thursday, we traveled back in time to ancient Greece and studied Greek Mythology. Students tried feta cheese, kalamata olives, and tzatziki sauce. Students learned about Greek pottery and made a medallion with Ancient Greek markings on it.
On Friday, we took a break from our travels and heard different Animal Tales. Students learned about worms and made delicious 'dirt pudding' with chocolate pudding, chocolate graham crackers and gummy worms! Students learned a Japanese fable and made carp windsocks. Students welcomed Sciencetellers to do their Mythical Science Story, Dragons & Dreams. We ended our week at Folktale Fiesta with The Magic of Tom Pesce and a spectacular magic show!
